Boris Johnson has just given the Russians the perfect excuse to divert the attention away from the genuinely serious issues by comparing Putin to Hitler and the 1938 German Olympics to the forthcoming football World Cup. He has provided the Putin administration with just the ammunition they need against Great Britain.
MILLIONS of Russian people were killed fighting the Nazis in WW2, and without the Russians the Allies would probably have lost the war.
Does anyone now seriously believe that Johnson is a highly skilled politician who fits the role of Foreign Secretary like a professional? Cro? Do you?
Any Conservative minister who can make Corbyn appear reasonable deserves the sack.
Churchill didn't always get things right first time round. But at the moment I am with Corbyn.
ReplyDeleteHe got things righter than Atlee.
DeleteI was thinking before that. But yes.
DeleteTotally with Corbyn. And the British went to those Olympics. In Germany.
ReplyDeleteI don't listen to Boris anymore, every time he is on tv or the radio. I walk away
ReplyDeleteBoris is a buffoon, he is a lotus eater who is perhaps best suited to shagging. But then you must know my thoughts on most politicians...
ReplyDeleteAnd now we have Trump and China crossing swords: best we let them get on with it and like driverless cars they will probably finish up killing everyone.
He certainly doesn't mince his words; although many have minced them later for him. Of course he was right; politicians do use sporting events to divert attention. If you read his actual words, he didn't COMPARE Putin to Hitler, but it's very simplistic for Putin to claim that he did.
ReplyDeleteNo, it was worse. He compared the whole of Russia to 1938 Germany.
DeleteI agree with Cro's latest comment, Putin is playing with words just as our side are.
ReplyDeleteI heard those words, and they need no playing with to be insensitive and offensive to ordinary Russian people whether they support Putin or not. Are you suggesting that Johnson is the right person for the job as Foreign Secretary? Do you think all of the crass statements he has blurted out since he got the job have made matters any better?
DeleteI simply agreed with Cro's comment, for myself, as somebody who believes in saying what he thinks, I have no problems with what Boris says.
DeleteNeither would I if he were not representing GB in a diplomatic role. Saying what you think before you have finished thinking about it is not a good thing to do if you are Foreign Secretary is it?
DeleteDiplomacy can be a dangerous thing, as Chamberlain proved in 1938-9, it can been seen as soft. Fortunately, Churchill, who said what he thought, got us out of the mess. I like to think that Winston would of approved of Boris. But if Boris starts WW3 I'll happily say I was wrong.
DeleteMy opinion is that most of them are egoist's who are only concerned with getting recognized and not with the little people down below. I can't even bother to give them the time of day.
ReplyDeleteBriony
He's a buffoon. It worked on HIGNFY but is less successful in Parliament.
