Every day it gets a little worse. The whole of Parliament is seized in a witch-hunt frenzy which - to a small extent - distracts everyone from the more pressing issues which Theresa May's ineffectual government are failing to deal with. 18 months after the Brexit vote and we are no nearer to any basic details regarding trade agreements, let alone all the other implications of leaving Europe.
The head of the NHS has demanded the £350,000,000 per week saving which we were promised would go straight to the NHS. That promise was painted on a big red London bus, so difficult to ignore.
The Poles are leaving in droves now anyway, partly because they no longer feel welcome and partly because they now have jobs to go back to. I will genuinely miss them, as will all the employers who benefitted from them.
Theresa May cannot afford to sack the utterly useless buffoon, Boris Johnson, even though he has proved himself a dangerous liability when it comes to protecting Brits abroad, or even commenting on any other country without causing an international incident.
She was forced to sack Pritty Patel when it turned out she was secretly using her Cabinet post to raise funds for the Israeli Army.
Everyone knows that Brexit was a massive mistake, but it is looking increasingly likely that we will indeed jump off that cliff.
Date announced today. We are doomed...
ReplyDeleteAusterity budget next week...
DeleteOr we could fight back...
DeleteHow?
DeleteI suppose we could withdraw conjugal rights to people like Pritty Patel and Boris Johnson, like a Greek comedy.
DeleteRe fighting back -for a start don't shy away from discussing it (but politely) with all kinds of people. Most folks are baffled by the complexity of Brexit, do't know who to believe and HATE aggro. but once they start seeing their jobs under threat and prices going up they are more inclined to listen to reason if they hear it & privately decide to vote against Brexit ever given another chance. AND keep prodding MPs, specially Labour who have actually supported the Tory headbangers and are still sitting on their hands allowing May to get away with all this crap. MPs need to know the tide is turning with their constituents Join pro EU groups on Twitter & Facebook, badger the likes of Keir Starmer and Chukka Umunna who are listening really, or subscribe to the New European, Libdems or anywhere else people are pushing back. If you don't want to join them or do this stuff that's fine by me, most people are just moaning and hoping to make the best of it LOL.
DeleteWell May's prime consideration right now seems to be to prevent any reversal of the popular vote, on the grounds of maintaining a flawed system of democracy. She has a point, but I think the grounds for a re-run lie in the fact that we were mislead at best and lied to at worst. I hate fucking mob rule and I think that - given the opportunity - we could have played a key role in reforming the corrupt and inept EU from the inside better than helping to undermine it from the outside and put our hopes and ambitions in the hands of other leaders elected by the populous.
DeleteOf course you are right, but May is beyond making sensible decisions. I'm sure she'd chuck ordinary any number of people overboard to make sure the lifeboats are kept for the cruel, incompetent bullies, because they'll kick her head in if she doesn't. She is simply not up to the job. I don't particularly feel like aiding her to survive myself. Others may be more charitable to the sad old thing
DeleteI watched the documentary on Trump's personal history last night. That depressed me enough
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could stand doing that. It's bad enough as it is here. Mind you, Trump's influence is world wide, so it is my business.
DeleteThe leave voters that I encounter still think it was a spiffing idea and it will all be fine in the end, as if by magic. Their goal of kicking out all the foreigners seems to be coming true, except that it sounds like it's hard working tax paying ones that are leaving.
ReplyDeleteStill, we'll "take back control" of whatever is left when it's all over.
(A tradesperson (that we didn't hire) declared that the local alleged housing shortage was due to the two thousand Poles who work for Sports Direct taking all the cheap houses. I pointed out that he was standing in a street where two out of three large family houses are occupied by one old person and maybe the fact that people are living longer could have something to do with it. He still thought the Poles, who work long hours for minimum wage and sleep several to a room in a bedsit because that's all they could afford, were the main cause of lack of decent housing and therefore he voted to leave.)
I notice that Cornwall, which voted overwhelmingly to leave, is now hoping for a subsidy because there's nobody to do the farm work the foreigners did and crops are rotting in the fields. If so I would like to think that the cornish might actually provide a subsidy for the rest of us, since they will now be able to do those jobs themselves and make all the money that the foreigners were grabbing for themselves.
DeleteAbout 50% of Cornwall is second homes for non-Cornish. They do not give a flying fuck.
DeleteBut surely the second home owners voted in their own smug little home areas, not in Cornwall? I'd actually be much happier to see subsidies arriving from the retired solicitors of West Berkshire.
DeleteThat is true. Poor people shot themselves in the feet by the millions.
DeleteI find it fascinating. No American, no Brit could have imagined a year ago, even nine months ago, our respective countries were headed straight over the cliffs, lemming driven. Well, orange/lemon driven. Now we're just sitting back, thinking what the eff, and waiting to take the ride and see what happens next.
ReplyDeleteOur generation can do nothing but sit back and watch it go to hell while we conveniently die.

ReplyDeleteLet's all dress as Lemmings!
ReplyDeleteCan I be the leader?
DeleteBags I last.
DeleteOh, yes, this is what I was looking for. I am continuing to support these guys who are following a definite and effective to oppose Brexit https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/parliament-should-decide/
