I am finding it a bit difficult to think straight right now, because - thanks to the efficiency of my client's accountants - I have not been paid for three months. I won't go into details because it is a long (too long) and boring story, but it is in times like these when you remember how a certain artist was told by a wealthy friend that despite his poverty, he always had his art. He replied by saying that it is difficult to write poetry when you are starving to death.
Well I am not starving to death thanks to all the credit cards I have got (I am saving that for later) and I am still making the artworks because I may, one day, get paid for them. I find it difficult to put up blog posts right now, though. I consider them a luxury. I would really like to go away for a few days. I need to. I think I will, no matter what.
I have a client who turned into a friend who has a cottage in a little village near Bridport which he lets out. H.I. just reminded me as I was trawling through all the fantastically expensive hotels in the area.
I looked at one hotel on the North Somerset coast, and was advised to book soon. Not because they are busy, but because it is built on the edge of a cliff which is being eaten away by the sea. The children's play area has already fallen in, and soon the entire hotel might follow it. Great sea views at the moment. Soon they will be close-ups.
It doesn't seem to have affected their room tariffs though. Maybe they would throw in a free breakfast if you woke up on the beach at low tide.
Here too the sea eats the costal strip of hotels,i never live in them, you can never know.
ReplyDeleteI suppose you don't like exciting holidays?
DeleteHave you tried Air BnB? I'm almost completely off regular hotels. Air BnB is cheaper, plus you get to see real homes and people and neighborhoods. I even did Air BnB in Paris and London, cities I know rather well, and saw a brand new side of the city. I LOVE Air Bnb.
ReplyDeleteThat is disgraceful, that a client expects you to wait 90 days (or more) for payment. It should be illegal. I'm sure it's bad for your health too. No wonder you need a break. I hope you find your little paradise.
I went right off Air BnB when I saw where their head office is. I went off Uber taxis at the same time. If I could afford to go off Google, then I would.
DeleteSteer clear would be my advice on that hotel!!
ReplyDeleteI quite like the idea of a dramatic alarm call at 3.00 in the morning... actually, no I don't.
DeletePlease don't blame the clients' accountant. The accountant only does what the client tells them to do.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
An Accountant
You do not understand. All the client does in this case is sign stuff put in front of him by the accountants. I now know exactly who to blame, and it isn't the client.
DeleteI apologise, I misunderstood the term 'accountant' as we don't do that sort of work nor have I heard of it being done. I have obviously led a sheltered life.
DeleteMy friend who is the entrepreneur with wedding venues, chateaux and health spas around the world leaves everything to her accountant. I was once visiting her at her Surrey venue and got lost. The number I had been given put me through to the accountant. He said he couldn't help because his client had given strict instructions not to be disturbed and not to divulge information to anyone. I eventually ended up in a pub lost and explained my problem to the landlady. Within 2 minutes I had all the information I needed.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to utterly despise all accountants. Who, in their right fucking mind, would choose a job like that when they could have been a true contender in a field which any outsider might have shown some respect toward? Juggling around with someone else's money is no job for a well-balanced, non OCD adult. Someone has to do it, but someone also has to bleach peoples' arseholes if the demand is great enough. I still prefer them to fucking architects, having said that.
DeleteThe Italian healthcare system pay their providers after 90 days, sometime after a year!
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
Maybe the NHS should try that.
DeleteIn spite of your pleas for free accommodation on previous pages, it looks like you are going to have to front up if you want a break somewhere. Can you sell a candlestick/object d'art to finance a jaunt away?
ReplyDeleteAny candlesticks worth enough to finance a holiday were sold ages ago, and I am not being paid for the object d'art that I make myself.
DeleteYou are looking forward to a break aren't you? hope it re invigorates you and you have a great time wherever you end up.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. My intention is a couple of days walking on a shoreline outside and reading a book inside between meals cooked by someone else.
