I'm bored. I want to be contentious just for a bit of action. Maybe I will wind up all you right-wingers. At the moment, righties are just a tad easier to wind up than lefties, and I am feeling lazy today.
Corbyn - or his office - say that they will scrap all student debts if they can afford to.
The Righties usual response of asking him where he keeps his Money Tree was deftly deflected by Corby saying that there will be plenty of money sloshing about, once he has scrapped Trident.
Why didn't I think of that? Well I did actually.
Tony Blair wanted every young person to attend University. It was an oft stated aim. Why? Because there is a hell of a lot of money in students - well, for some, anyway.
The Vice Chancellor of Bath University gets paid £500,000 a year plus perks, one of which being a very well-appointed apartment in one of Bath's most prestigious crescents. It is in the house which once belonged to William Beckford. I know it is a nice place because I went to a Summer drinks party there.
I was very lucky when I went to Art College because I received a modest grant which meant I only had to work in the holidays. I studied Art which was - and still is - considered as absolutely no use at all to anyone in the real world, but most people who say that are just plain stupid - and ungrateful. Everything you ever touch has, at some point in its creation, had the benefit of an artist's input.
Doctors, on the other hand, are very useful people in society. Everyone agrees with that, even stupid people.
When a doctor completes his or her university training, he/she begins to pay off the £60,000+ debt incurred by beginning work. As a doctor. For the NHS.
There is an acute shortage of doctors in this country right now, but we have artists coming out of our arse.
It would be interesting to make Party Election manifestos 'Legally Binding'. Corbo would have been left with very little to tempt his young voters.
ReplyDeleteNot at all. If his pledge to scrap Trident was legally binding and he got elected on that manifesto, then - as I point out above - there would be plenty of money for not only student debt but also there would probably be a bit left over for the NHS - derr.
DeleteThats a big salary for a vc Although accomodation does usually go with the role! I'm pushing the Prof for the job
ReplyDeleteYou'll never want for dog food for the rest of your life.
DeleteOh' I can just see the advert now in The Armourer's Weekly News "ex British Trident equipment for sale almost brand new and never used.
ReplyDeleteAll offers above £1 trillion considered .
U.S. $1 trillion more like.
DeleteYou certainly are bored and contentious, today! A gratuitous tbi could straighten out your attitude in a heartbeat. Or not.
ReplyDeleteYour argument seems to be poor artists contribute more value to society than doctors who incur mountainous debt to be in short supply. Poor artists also pour into and fill up all the cracks of society.
And the winner is: Trident. The grand prize winner will correctly name which trident.
I'm not sure I had an argument, I was just moaning.
