Where's the fire?

I am going to try and take a weekend off and build up my strength to endure the three weeks of recrimination, belated analysis, screams of 'where did it all go wrong?', followed by a night of blood-letting in the corridors of Whitehall, followed by two years of fruitless argument in Brussels, followed by another recession.

Hang on - isn't that Princess Anne to the right of the tour guide out there in the street?

It wouldn't be the first time. Some years ago I looked out of the same window to see Princess Anne in pretty much the same spot, but this time in an open, horse-drawn carriage.

As she approached Pulteney Bridge, a fire engine appeared on it with lights flashing and sirens blaring, then the driver saw who was in the carriage and turned everything off except the engine, and came to a respectful stop to allow her to process on her regal way.

The carriage had also come to a halt, and for a moment there was a very British show of "After you". "No, after you, I insist", until the Princess could stand it no longer and stood up in her carriage waving her arms and shouting, "GO ON!"

Thanks to this waiving of Royal protocol, someone's house was probably saved from burning to the ground.

  1. I think the hair style is slightly too racy for Princess Anne. The bloke on the left is just waiting for the pub' to open.... maybe the look-alike is his wife.

  2. It doesn't look like a particularly riveting moment of the tour; they are all looking in different directions.

    1. The one right next to the guide actually has their head in their hands and is drinking a coffee.
