Mad hair sells paintings?

This time we have merchandise. Grandson has had these t-shirts printed up with Granma's (that was the name of the boat that Castro invaded Cuba in) paintings on the back, and her signature on the front. Three different images as a limted edition of 100, at £33 each.

Today I haul in all the paintings, wine, glasses, banners, tools, etc. etc. and H.I. will spend a couple of hours deciding on where they are going. We cannot get in until 7.00pm, so it is going to be a long night. I am going to miss The Archers. I am going to miss The Archers all week, as we close the show at 7.00 every evening. I am going to miss The Archers Omnibus as well, because I will be hauling all the unsold stuff back again on Sunday. Let's hope there is nothing left to haul back.

I will not be going to the pub for a whole week, and I am wondering if I will survive. I will probably have no time to do any blogging after today, so I wonder if you are going to survive.

For a week or two now, I have been building up the courage to wash and cut my hair, ready for the big night. H.I. always tells me not to cut it too short, because I look like Caligula when it is too short, and that does not sell paintings. I used to look like one of the more humane Roman Emperors, but then my true personality could hide behind a youthful visage no longer.

A combination of a bad cold and a series of hangovers in trying to medicate it has made me reluctant to have my head upside-down over the bath for ten mimutes, so I have been putting it off.

Then I walked into the pub yesterday and a young barmaid looked at me for a while and said, "Hmm. Long hair. It looks good."

On my way there, a drunk/mad woman shouted from about 100 yards distant, "What a lovely head of hair you've got!!!"

A couple of years previously, a similar woman stopped me in the street and said, "You're Brian May, aren't you?" She would not accept that I was not him and I didn't have a guitar to hand to prove it, so I went straight home and cut my hair.

I told H.I. what the barmaid had said, and she said, "There you are. Leave it as it is."

Oh well, it's her exhibition, but I cannot shake off the suspicion that everyone is bored right now and is having a laugh at my expense. We could all do with one.

    1. You don't know what a wash does to my hair, Jack@. You think it looks mad now...

  3. Your hair is okay Tom and the wrinkles beneath it only add character.

    1. What a coincidence. I have just left a comment on another blogger's site, after reading her quandary about whether to let her hair go grey.

Just like some famous advice not to buy new clothes for a particular occasion, I would leave your hair as is...with a wash.

Best wishes for a very successful exhibit. The tee shirts are a good idea.

    2. The t-shirts were a project started about a year ago by the lad. They could be Christmas presents...

  6. Your hair looks lovely Tom. Do not cut it before the exhibition; it adds a bit of eccentricity - I love it!
Best wishes to H.I. and to you.
    Greetings Maria x

  8. Wishing H.I. an enjoyable week, with lots of sales. I had a look at her website the other day and liked what I saw. Your hair looks good. Just a wash then and perhaps H.I. could blow dry it for you?

    1. Thanks, but I am regretting even mentioning it now. Everyone is telling me to wash it, and it's all getting a bit personal. Her website desperately needs updating, and this is another job for Grandson - when he gets round to it.

  9. Long-ish hair is not a turn off, it's when it is lank & unwashed. The silver top in the photo looks soft and clean! Best Wishes for The Show and for sales. At least you have been doing something interesting . I've just spent HOURS trying to descale a coffee machine.

    1. Ah - at last - someone who is not telling me to wash my hair. It knocks years off my age when women tell me to wash my hair, but not in a good way.

  10. You can sit playing with your Iphone and read blogs and comment and write posts all week and email and have your head down in your lap and never look up if you want to.

    1. Yes, I thought of that but decided not to. I may relent and just do it though. I can dictate posts with this phone, so it may provide plenty of humour from badly translated words.

I wanted to test it to see if it filtered out swearwords, so I said the word 'cunt' into it, and it printed it immediately. I sent it to the person standing next to me in the pub, and after it had gone through, it told me that it had sent it to two people. I never found out who the other person was. I hope it wasn't one of my clients.

    3. Thank heavens for that. No harm done then.

  11. I agree you shouldn't cut your hair before the exhibition; as Maria said, it adds a touch of eccentricity. I would wash it though--I wash my hair every day and cannot imagine not doing so! If I didn't, my hair would be flat and oily--not attractive at all! But then, maybe your hair's texture makes it better for you not to wash it as often.

    1. Oh, and my eccentricity has nothing to do with hair. It is more socially unacceptable than that.

    2. That is pretty accurate, but then I stepped in and gave them the benefit of my keen eye. It helped to go to the nearby pub and have pies and beers. All the decisions were made in a flash after that. All I have to do now is nail the fuckers up.

  14. Wash it, cut it, don't wash it, put a bow in it, wear a hat.....either way the next few days are going to be good and the fact that you are there and doing your bestest is all that matters..bon chance mon ami.

    1. It probably constitutes my best (remaining) feature. I often wonder if baldness would upset me, but I don't think it would.

    2. I've gone bald and recently also very bold - no wigs. I had shoulder-length hair so it did upset me at first, but I'm fine with it now as my baldness, hopefully, isn't permanent.

  16. Yay (!) for hair. Ask any bald man.

  17. If you have it, flaunt it, but do comb it.

Much luck for a fistful of dollars - or the like. Enjoy yourself and may H.I. have a very successful show.

    1. I have not combed or brushed my hair for over 50 years, and I'm not starting now. I know my hair, and I know what happens to it if it is combed - you think it looks mad now... Thanks for the good luck wish.

  20. My farmer has little or no hair - when I showed him this and asked if he was envious he just gave me a funny look - not sure what to read into it.

    1. Envy. Pure envy. Tell him if he wants to get his own back, he should just post up a picture of his willy on your blog.
