No oil painting

Today, I tell a couple of jokes told to me by a young woman who I have known since birth (hers, not mine).

1: I saw her a day or so ago, and she told me that she had got a new job in a helium factory, filling party balloons. She walked out on the first day though, and said, "I'm not being spoken to like that".

2: What did the bra say to the hat?

"You go on ahead and I'll give these two a lift".

After yesterday's photo, I can tell you that half-famous local artist has just painted a portrait of me which I haven't yet seen (this isn't a joke, or at least I don't think it is). The painting was promised to another friend of mine, but he went back on the deal and sold it to someone else.

Well, I say portrait, but in reality it is of me, standing outside the pub, smoking a cigarette, and the pub tends to dominate the picture. The artist walks past the pub all the time, and seems to see me there every time he does.

I will show you it at some point, but I want to see it myself before that.

  1. Never a good idea to see onself in a picture (particularly after the age of fifty).

    1. I am certainly not photogenic. I don't like seeing pictures of myself.

  2. I like that photo of you that you posted yesterday although I didn't say so when I commented, it didn't really fit to say it in the comment that I left. But it is a very good photo composition wise.

    1. We gave grandson the old 35mm Olympus, and he has it round his neck most of the time. It is cheaper now to process 35mm film than it ever was before digital.

  3. The last portrait that was painted of me was so dreadful that I swore at the woman who painted it.... and she was an RCA graduate too.

    1. Think yourself lucky Lucian Freud didn't do a full-length nude of you.

  4. I can imagine broad brush strokes for The Bell, lighter and darker here and there for doors and windows, with a tall green swipe topped by a beacon of silver. Portrait of Tom. Not lime green, but old English paint green. Authentic, of course.

    1. This man paints very photographically. Not my cup of tea, really. He likes buildings at twighlight with illuminated windows.

    2. He has just made a portrait of Ken Loach, his film-director mate who lives in Bath. It's all blue. Knowing Ken, it should be red.

    3. Ken is mates with Eric Cantona, you may remember you put a comment about Eric on my blog about three posts back. I replied that Ken is very red. I cant remember anything else about what we were talking about at the time or why Eric was mentioned.

    4. Ken is a life supporter of Bath (Twerton) football club. He recently got Eric to come over to promote it. Eric seems to have lost a bit of weight since I last saw him, unlike fellow countryman, Gerard Depardieu.

  6. Oh, a portrait. How exciting. Just be glad it's of you standing and not doing anything else. Yes, I like the photo of you too.

    1. Anything else could have been done by Francis Bacon, but I never moved in those circles... I liked your Award Ceremony video. You are the most photogenic person I know around here.
