More moments like this, please
John just asked about when we were happiest or - more precisely - are we happy at all.
I thought back to a very brief and insignificant moment a few years ago, when I was lying on my back on a small lawn just out of town, staring up at the sky on a clear, Summer day.
I could see for miles through the atmosphere, and I could hear the conversation of everyone who is closest to me in my life, coming through some open French windows. A cat was lying right beside me and there were some birds, circling on a thermal so high that they looked like dots against the deep blue sky.
My actual thought was, 'If I am going to die soon, I really want it to be now'. Of course, I had no intention of dying, but just for that moment I could not think of a better time to go. It wasn't through any dissatisfaction with life - just the opposite.
