Below the parapet

I got an email from the producer of 'Feedback' yesterday - the BBC radio program which allows licence payers some sort of voice, and the voices quite often start with, "Why, oh why must..." etc. You know, bouquets and brickbats, and all that.

I had been listening to last week's edition when they mentioned the current government attack on the Corporation, and I had just bought a licence for the first time in over 30 years. I had also just had a few glasses of wine, so I went to the computer and proudly admitted to the fact, offering any support I could to save it in the future (like what?!).

The email asked for my phone numbers and the producer said that she would like to record my patriotic rant for inclusion in next week's show, so - once again after a few glasses of wine - I supplied them.

I woke up in the middle of the night worrying about it. I even dreamed that she had called me. I am having visions of turning into a Victor Meldrew character, and -worse - being accused of it by anyone I know who might hear me.

I think I might supply my thoughts and experiences as a written statement, signed with a false name. 'Tom Stephenson' might be a good choice.

  1. There is only one thing to do: Plunge forward with the aid of a couple more glasses of wine. That'll keep up the courage.

It is quite flattering, though, to have been asked.

    1. I think my last email to her did the trick. I said I was worried about being 'incoherent'.
