The major offensive against the BBC has now begun. They are going to shrink it, carve it up and distribute the spoils amongst their loyal supporters as promised before the last general election. Rupert Murdoch and son must be rubbing their sweaty hands with glee.
"The BBC should devote itself to public service broadcasts," they intone, knowing full well how much revenue will be brought in by programs like East Enders, Strictly and Bake-off. They sacked the Head of Light Entertainment years ago. Why then, do they need to increase the licence fee, or is that a silly question?
Talk about selling-off the family silver. I don't think that I am at all exaggerating when I say that the BBC IS britain. It represents the British psyche - or it used to. A couple of weeks ago, Royal Mail was 100% privatised and HM Prisons have been privately run - in the main - for years. Look how they are exploiting the Queen's head everywhere you turn.
I really do not like what is happening to this country, and I never thought I would hear myself say that. I must be getting old.
