Cheap as chips

This post is just to cheer John up. More candlesticks.

Yes, just when you thought I had shut up about candlesticks, up I pop with this rather elaborate little taper stick holder in wrought iron. It is about a foot wide.

I was sold it as 17th century (well, the ignoramus called it 16th century AND Cromwellian, so I suppose he made the usual mistake).

I've sent this photo to one of the world's leading experts for his opinion. That's the good thing about having a strange name and specialising in obscure things - you don't normally have to be secretive about your email address.

    1. To quote Woody Allen, Europe is so old that it is actually rotting.

  2. Whatever century it was made in it would look rather nice in my hearth.

    1. It's meant for a table, Weave - I know it looks like a set of fire-dogs, but it ain't.

  3. It looks right, but there's some clever folk out there. Let us know what your expert says!

    3. Yes, I think so too. The world expert suggested a student of Pugin, but as he reminded me, iron is so bloody difficult to date.
