World and national news has got so bad now that I really don't like listening to it. I've always looked down on people who said they didn't listen to the news because it made them depressed, but now I am beginning to think along the same lines. It's all fear and loathing and inspires blog-post titles like, 'Kill Them All!"
Radio 4 is a relentless diet of medieval-style killings, financial catastrophes, medical issues, legal issues and threats from HMRC. There was not one Sherlock Holmes on it this Winter, but even if there was, I doubt if it would have been distracting enough.
The year before last I watched the Christmas edition of East Enders, and it included two attempted murders and a plate of turkey with all the trimmings being poured over the head of a family member.
'The Archers' is now being written by the same person who wrote that script, and it shows.
