All Hallows at Conkwell

Did I say I wasn't going to post for a few days? Well I was lying. I used to live here - a few hundred yards from a prehistoric stone circle which only me and a handful of others know about, and that handful is the Bradford on Avon Amateur Archeological Association.

This is one of the original standing stones, now prone and lying there, waiting for cars like mine to be parked upon it.

Others lurk in the undergrowth,

... like this one. Nearby there is an ancient earthwork and stone conglomeration called 'Jugg's Grave'. Look it up on an OS Map.

And closer again, someone has dumped the second most expensive vacuum cleaner in the world.

I once tried to rent this cottage, also close by. The outgoing tenant advised me not to, because the place was haunted by the entire family of an axe-murderer who killed them all in it, and I later found out that this was true.

I see the current tenants are getting into the Halloween spirit quite nicely, and also quite early.

I will respond to all your lovely comments from this morning tomorrow, honest!

    1. You know I don't mean that - even though you do. I just felt so bad at calling Heron a 'cunt', that I felt like having a holiday, then someone told me that he IS a cunt, and I shouldn't feel too bad about it.

    2. I don't know why you felt so bad about it. I told you so on my blog if you read it. I knew you were going to have a wobbly about it.

    3. I went over to his blog as well, and called him a cunt there too. I don't know why I respond sometimes - actually I do. It's when I am pissed and lose my sense of humour.

Also, I meant what I said - most of the time, I get sick of reading myself.

    4. Sometimes I have an over whelming feeling that I want to talk to you. I felt like that today.
I was surprised to see Heron back leaving me a comment the other night.

    5. Heron is a glutton for punishment, as he will find out if he hangs around here any longer.

You don't need to talk to me. I don't exist.

    6. I get over it. It doesn't last long.

  2. Maybe it's not the Halloween spirit at all, but the way they live on a daily basis as influenced by the unquiet spirits of the violently departed.....

  4. Fuck me......" I vant to be alone" previous post has morphed into another " dyson on the side of the road" post
    Fucking typical

  5. Dy aye son by the side of the road, Dyson by the side of the road, there's a Dyson by the side of the road.... Sounds like the makings of a song to me. PS ~ you guys across the pond are quite bawdy compared to us politically correct Yankees. And a lot more fun.

    1. I hate(d) Peter Seeger too. In fact, I hate ALL the Seeger family almost as much as I hate the Guthrys. Dysons don't smell like skunks, not that I have ever smelt - or want to smell - a skunk.

    1. You just cannot stay away, can you, you silly sod? Why don't I block you? Because you keep coming back to be insulted and it's fun for me, that's why.

I have decided to have a bit of fun with you, no matter how cruel I have to be in the process. Keep it up.

    2. I blocked him about a year ago, but he finds a way...

  7. Sometimes I consider your "old" vs. Yankee "old" and must shut up. I live amidst ancient earthworks, built up by the Hopewells or Fort Ancients, a mere century and a half ago. But, car tires over stone monoliths!
Dyson--highly, highly overrated. I bought one; my granddaughters have not got my money's worth yet, for me to scrap it.

    1. But you have native American earthworks that are a lot older than our British ones - how old is that snake-hill?

The Dyson vacuum cleaner was not over-rated when it first hit the markets. Since then, everyone is using the Dyson technology in their vacuum cleaners, and now most of them work just as well, but because they haven't spent a fortune on the development, they can sell them a lot cheaper.

  8. My, the drama that took place while I was offline for two days! At the thought of almost having lost you (at least for a while), I have to take a deep breath and loosen the elastic on my knickers for a bit.

  9. I heard someone being called 'a right bloody Heron' the other day; is this now current English?

That Dyson would make a great kid's space helmet.

    1. I cannot remember what it is/was called, but I think it had a Scandinavian or German sounding name. It was only sold from the backs of magazines, and targeted people with extreme allergies to cats, etc. It was around £1800...

  13. Hey, Stranger...long time no see...actually never really seen except under the brim of a hat in a photo. How you play with our emotions...sob!
What a peaceful country scene. I love that cottage...not the murderous history obviously but the design and use of beautiful stone.
Decades ago I spent a few weeks volunteering at a local colonial era site. That means I was on my knees (careful) with a tiny scraper and small brush unearthing countless arrowheads and pieces of clay pipes. No mummified loyalists to be found.

    1. I still haven't forgiven myself for playing with your emotions in such a callous and thoughtless way - actually, I have.

That cottage is in the Gothic style, which always appeals to Americans, and I don't know why. There's nothing wrong with it, but I don't understand why it is so appealing to everyone in the States.

Someone tried to sell me a rusty sabre recently, by saying it was dug up on the field of the charge of the Light Brigade!
