Get back on your heads

Ok, Holiday over. Back to work, you lazy bastards. No pictures for you.

Here in England (but more so in France) there has been a dramatic and very nasty upturn in anti-Semitic attacks and abuse, as a result of the conflict between Hamas and the Israeli government.

It has only been a couple of hundred years since ordinary, God-fearing Jews were called 'child-eaters' in Merry Olde Englande, and now they are - right here and now in our major cities - being called 'child killers'.

It is now absolutely impossible to organise a simple and peaceful protest about anything without it being hi-jacked by extremists with another agenda, and any protests against the disproportionate use of force against Palestinians have been hi-jacked by a combination of very nasty and very stupid - usually both - thugs, who are as close to neo-nazisim as you can get these days without being barred from walking the streets.

Ordinary practising Jews are having dog shit put through their letter-boxes and despicable graffiti daubed on their walls - 'Death to all Jews' being quite a popular little sentiment, even amongst non-Molsems.

In this country of the lowest common denominator, Paediatric surgeons are believed to be paedophiles, Moslems are believed to be terrorists and all Jewish families are believed to be child-killers.

For fuck's sake, why can't we grow up?

  2. It worries me….I don't care what religion/skin colour etc people are..they have a right to live a life free from fear. The anti semitism that seems to be happening in this country is dreadful.

  3. You are trying to solve centuries of Jewish persecution with a plea that we grow up. Oh, that it could be so simple.

  4. Have you read about what is going on Missouri?

  5. It's not a football games we should not take sides and if all outside backing was withdrawn and the international court and the united nations made a ruling on what was right and lawful and the people involved followed their directions things would be resolved after all thats what would happen if we have a problem with our neighbours.
People living in your or mine country are not responsible for conflict overseas we are only responsible for our own backyard.

    1. Unfortunately, people living in both our countries are very responsible for the current overseas conflict.

The Brits are responsible for the mess which is Israel, and the US are responsible for the mess which is Iraq.

This is simple history, but with no time available for lessons at the moment.

  6. And Hamas recently broke the ceasefire by firing missiles into Egypt, killing one child and injuring two more. Does anyone daub 'Child Killers' on Muslim walls? Blinkers are a wonderful fucking thing!

    1. Yours is the only comment I can answer tonight, Yael.

It is SO bloody difficult, and despite what I have said in the past about the Israeli government, I really feel for all ordinary people - both sides of the border.

When I said 'grow up', that was a bad choice of words. I should have said 'wake up'.

What a shame that the One God comes in so many different guises to so many different people, and what a shame that the Holy Lands are so hotly disputed.

    2. What there is to understand needs a few years of history lessons, and there is no time for that right now.

    3. That's why some of the comments in your post about Israel made me so sad.

  8. It's terrifying Tom. I find myself with my mouth hanging open in disbelief most mornings listening to the Today program as each new revelation is broadcast.

  9. It's pretty obvious to make the comparison to what was happening in Germany in 1933 with what you describe. I it a good comparison?
    Dunno.
On one hand, Israel is now a viable, strong country; a country Jews can usually move to without difficulty, not available in 1933. This makes the question arise if people are being persecuted, should they move or seek redress? Guess this applies to the Palestinians too.
As to 'growing up'....I'll assume this means people finally maturing, figuring things out, etc....
Toughie. Let's use the Balkans as an example: the area had ethnic conflicts, bloody ones, for centuries. Then it got annexed in the post WW2 re-organization of eastern Europe in 1945 and 1946. The Soviets effectively suppressed the long conflict between two christian groups and muslims. This worked right up to the collapse of the USSR, two generations. But the memory survived along with the animosities. We got to see the result in the early 90's.
So I kind of doubt that we can just grow up, alas.
