Utterly shameless advertising

I bought this genuine Victorian candle lantern on Saturday, and all I can say is that - if you consider yourself any sort of Christmas Carol singer at all - you really ought to buy it.

It's on eBay. You'll find it it if you're interested.

  1. You'll know this answer. Did it have glass panes to stop the wind?

    1. I don't think it was ever glazed. I think it had something like thin parchment which would also have diffused the light. The windows couldn't have all been glazed, the way it has been constructed.

    1. Was that your Dickinson impersonation? The Boy now edits his programs so I've seen a few. I could not possibly comment on his taste in tat.

  3. Even Mr Scrooge might be tempted. I have a few French equivalents, but not as attractive as yours.

    1. There is a company which rents just such things as props - I'm hoping it will catch their eye. I briefly met the two ladies who scoured the country for all the props for the Harry Potter films. They had the fore-sight to buy, not rent them, and now they form that place you go to visit to walk up Diagon Alley, etc.

    2. Archie Nathan used to be the best for theatrical props etc, now I believe it's called Nathan and 'something'.
