Pub endoscopy

My engineer mate brought in a specialist, infra-red camera on a pole to the pub, and I couldn't resist taking a peek up the chimney.

This is what the inside of an early 18th century coaching inn chimney looks like - a sight normally only seen by young boys, but let's not go into that.

Carry on.

  1. Not too bad, I suppose; I can see bricks and masonry work. That's all I know about the inside of an 18th century pub chimney.

    1. No bricks (at this level) - stone and lime plaster.

    2. Actually, Joanne, you may be right - it could well be lined with red brick. Apologies.

  2. Looks amazingly clean....unlike my thoughts on reading your post title.

  3. I've got a thing about looking up chimneys too. When I decorated one of the bedrooms, we've got an old Georgian fireplace boarded up there and took a photo when we uncovered it. The pub chimney looks a lot more immaculate than ours. Soot, twigs and spiders and the odd unfortunate rook carcass as well.

    1. There hasn't been a real fire up there for about 25 years, so that might explain the cleanness.

    1. For 'interesting' are we to infer 'experienced'?

  5. Zahi Hawass eat your heart out - straight through to the Queen's chamber

    1. Zahi Hawass? I am really pleased to see you here, Bearly, but you keep giving me things to look up on Google because I don't understand them - please tell me who Zahi Hawass is/was?

    2. Is that pronounced Whore-Arse?

  6. I have just Googled up Mr Hawass, and I am ashamed that I did not recognise his name earlier. Now you mention it, Bearly, I knew there was something that video reminded me of - the photos of the Egyptian tomb explorations - of course!

    1. P.S. - I was sidetracked by 'The Queens Chamber' comment. Right now, my mind is in an Elizabethan setting, and that meant something completely different in those days.

    2. Ahhh of course, perhaps methinks Robert Dudley then. Zahi is a portly fellow and never made it through to the other side.

    3. Dudley may have been put off by the teeth, methinks. Zahi never made it to the other side of the synagogue. The things one does for one's country, eh?

      Oh well, I tried...
