Nature Boy

  1. Beautiful song. Whenever I hear NKC, I remember how he was obliged to sleep in his bus, whilst touring, because hotels in the USA wouldn't allow black skinned people. His band, who were all white, however, were always welcomed.

    1. It's just unthinkable for that to be allowed to happen, isn't it?

  3. My lovely aunt had Nat King Cole played at her funeral and my mum used to sing lots of his songs when she sang with my dad's band so, any of his songs brings a tear to my eye. XXXX

    1. There is something deeply weird and wonderful about these lyrics, eh?

    2. The lyrics certainly are wonderful & rather haunting.
There is a really good drama on at the moment about a black jazz band mixed up in the arisocratic world of 1930's London, seeking fame and fortune, with all the bigotry and abuse that went with it ......... some good new music in it too. It's called ' Dancing on the Edge'. XXXX

  4. Thank you for posting up Nat King Cole's song Tom, he was a wonderful singer with great diction and clarity of voice. Such that when listening to him I would drift off into another consciousness.
I remember when his song When I Fall in love reached number four in the UK charts & almost everyone in the streets was either whistling or singing the number.
Great shame about the bigotry that he faced in the US.

  5. It was that way here in the US for many black artists not so long ago. Thank goodness things have changed.

  6. I just loved him when I was young Tom - absolutely brilliant. But like Sammy David Jnr - these clever artists suffered a lot of abuse back home. And to thi=nk that now we have a black President - I don't suppose they could have imagine it in such a short time.
