Toni has died.

My sister, Toni, died tonight. She's the one directly below me as a baby with the biggest grin.

I think she just gave up at about 1.45 a.m. This post is just to notify her other brother, who I know has read this blog in the past, and the only communication any of us have had with him was through it, ever since the death of our father.

Poor Karen, Damian and David. She was their life, and now they'll have to find a different one.

You can email me about it if you want to, Peter, just don't think about turning up.

  5. Dear Tom (I'm actually using your real name in my head), how very sad to hear about your sister. It almost sounds as if she just faded away. For her it's all over; for the rest of you it's the beginning of a life with one part missing. My most sincere condolences to you and her family. Tough times; Cro x

  9. I'm very sorry, Tom. Everything has to settle into a different place again when someone dies, and it takes a long time. Many good wishes to her family and to yourself.

  10. Thanks all, for those messages. As I said to John earlier, even though we have seen it coming for years, it doesn't lessen the sadness of it all - of course.

I will give you a better idea of what she was like as a person a little later, and because my memories of her will always be most strongly linked to her humour, this will not be a dirgey tribute, I promise.

Meanwhile I am off to Winchester again today, to pay a visit to the rest of the family. I know her daughter in particular will be devastated - like I said above, she was her life but now it has all changed.

At least she was grateful that she just seemed to slip away peacefully.

  14. Oh Tom,
I'm so sorry to hear your sad news. It sounded as if she was getting a little better with talk of her coming home so, this must have been a huge shock to the family. Sending love and condolences and at least you all have each other for support at such a difficult time. We're all thinking of you. Much love. XXXX

  18. Dear Tom. We have such fun with you here in Blogland - all jokes and saucy posts. But today - all that is put aside as we all feel the same (I can see that from reading the responses above). Sincere condolences and love to you - I am the last remaining one in my family, so I know about losing a sister and abrother - but they do live on you know, in your memory. Take courage from that.

  19. That full stop at the end of the above title is (I believe) the only one I have ever used, popped in at about 2.30 a.m. this morning, whilst it was still hot. All the rest would have been inappropriate, eh?

  24. Thanks to you both, Molly and Chris too, and double thanks to Camille.

I'm a bit worried about your last post, Chris. What is going on with you? Not too depressed I hope? Are things going wrong or right for you?

  27. Even when you see it coming, it still hurts like hell. Like Weaver, i'm the last one standing. It hurts, and eventually heals, but the love remains.

I am very sorry for you and yours as you make your way through this.

  28. Sorry to read your sad news. I'm an only child but I do get a glimpse of what it must be like not to be from the lives of my own children, one of whom has two sisters.
