Heated bedroom?

I originally photographed this section of the medieval wall of Salisbury Cathedral Close (with 18th C. additions) because I liked the corbeled bay-window, but then I noticed the window set into the base of the chimney stack.

Do you think their spare room is in a fire-place?  (closing question)

  1. How odd Tom - I love that bay window but don't know what to make of that chimney stack.

  2. Very peculiar although, the actual fireplace could be set to the left of the window and the chimney goes of at an angle to the right ......... we have eight fireplaces and none of the chimneys go straight up ..... straight up ! Not very well explained but I know what I mean !

    1. Sort of. It is - I think, because of the coat of arms - a Cathedral owned house, so that room may be to give an idea of what Hell is like?

  3. Are you sure that window is an 18th century addition? Escape hatch for a lover, maybe, or easy way to dump refuse (which might also be the lover).

    1. Good idea, Megan. They would suddenly find themselves on the street - literally.
