Bon Voyage Bev

We met up with an old friend yesterday to waive goodbye to her before she leaves for a placement in a Spanish university as a mature student (she's a little over 50).  You may remember me doing a feature on her when H.I.'s exhibition was on, the winter before last.

Anyway, the sole reason for this post is to relate a very good turn of phrase that she told us had been handed down to her by her West Indian mother.

You may also remember the colourful expression she used when describing how much worse bankers treated their customers these days, even after the disgrace heaped on them as a result of how badly they treated them even before the crash.  It went something like this:  "Banks have always fucked us up the arse, but now they fuck us up the arse DRY".

Well, yesterday she said that if her mother was quite hungry, she would sometimes say,  "I could eat Jesus off the cross!"

Let's hope she doesn't respond like this when invited to dinner by her new Catholic hosts.

  2. When my old mate Jock (NZ/Aussie) was thirsty he'd always say 'I'm as dry as a nun's nasty'. Add that to your collection.

  6. She also told us that her sister was assistant director to Danny Boyle for the Olympic Opening Ceremony, and spent a year working working on it. What a job to get!
