Phantom house in Cornwall

The house where these pictures were taken, overlooking St. Ives in Cornwall - where H.I., me and many others have spent so many days and nights - no longer exists. It has been completely demolished.

Luckily, the view still exists, but this demolishes itself, second by second, to rebuild new versions of the same old scene, in the same way the house will be reincarnated in due course.

  1. I thought you would definitely have some comments by now about the "Phantom house". Perhaps everyone thought your post was about a loss. I, however, see it as renewal. Question .... is the rainbow shot real or did you fake it?

    1. It's a bit of both, really - destroying to create, and all that. That is a genuine, undoctored photo taken by my own fair hand. Some of those coastal weather phenomena are really spectacular.

  2. I was wondering the same thing. Certainly a winner at the St Ives Camera Club.

    1. I had about 30 seconds to rush indoors and get the camera, but took others as it faded which are also interesting, but not as surreal. H.I. made a painting of it, which sold at her last show. I had my doubts about it, because I have never really seen a successfully painted rendition of a rainbow, but H.I. - clever thing - made the perfect image.

  3. Are you entering the first picture in the upcoming 'Invisible: Art about the Unseen 1957 – 2012' exhibition.

    Bloody rip off.

Your rainbow shot is really good though.

  4. I know not to wot you refer to, Chris, but I'm glad you like the rainbow, and I'm glad I gave it a second airing here.
