Mother's Day

The above image is 'Wild Man Fischer' holding a knife to his mother, on a wonderful - if somewhat disturbing - album cover from the 1970s. That - BTW - was his real mother.

I asked if a young friend in the pub was doing anything for his mother this Sunday, and he replied, "Oh, I am taking her out."

The barman held his hands up as if holding a gun and made a soft shooting noise, as if he was 'taking out' a mother, and we all laughed.

Happy Mother's Day!

  1. Already had my Mother's day. Lovely daughter came down yesterday armed with a card and flowers, took me out, not with a gun, but to a slap up lunch and a shop around town.

    1. That's the one. Jewish extremism at it's best.

  3. I'd be wild too if my Mum forced me to wear a tea cosy.

    She looks scarier.

  4. I cannot help reminding you Tom that it is 'Mothering Sunday' today - not Mother's Day. Mother's Day is a horrible American invention and does not take place until May sometime. I am not in the least religious but I do like the distinction. On the other hand - I do hate fuss on Mothering Sunday. My own mum has been dead for some thirty years. I hope my son remembers (well, it will no doubt be his wife who remembers as behind every good man is a good woman!) but he knows I like a subdued celebration.

    1. Oh, I didn't know the difference. Is there such a thing as Fathering Sunday too?

I now feel like playing that Country and Western song about the kid who gives his mother an invoice for doing a bit of housework... "No charge..."
