Grayson Perry (below) is currently curating an exhibition in the British Museum called "Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman".
Some silly cow (not the one above) on Radio 4 has just said that - in many ways - the whole of the British Museum is a monument to unknown craftsmen, since it is full of stuff made by people we know nothing about,
"...like the Elgin Marbles..." (top photo, if you hadn't guessed).
Silly me, I thought everyone knew that they were carved by a rather well-known man called Phideas, rather a long time ago.
Do critics have critics?
ReplyDeleteI could be a critic critic.
That way, when I reach those pearly gates and St.Peter asks me what I did that had any worth whilst on earth I can just go ahead and fuck myself and save him the bother of saying it.
Good point, Chris. I am an amateur critic of critics too. It usually takes the form of a rant, but at least it is a well-informed (ish) rant, unlike those professional ones.
ReplyDeleteGrayson Perry, by the way, is a silly and self-serving transvestite potter who has - somehow - made it big in the art world by producing a load of shite which the critics all seem to approve of.
ReplyDeleteIf you can; do. If you can't; become a critic!
ReplyDelete@ Cro Magnon......I could not have put it more perfectly. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment about Mr Perry, I did wonder what he was all about. A transvestite potter, eh.
