  2. How many states are there in the US? Maybe they can add one more.

  3. That hat is remarkable. It looks like it has melted. No, not Slitherin! I don't think Razmataz is thick but I think she may have left her capslock on.

  4. Yes, definitely Slitherin! Just briefly watched Obama make his grand entrance into Parliament yesterday with all the Very Important People sitting on their hard chairs and felt very relieved that I was a Very Unimportant Person and was able to recline on a very soft lounger in the French sunshine drinking a cold beer (even if my house is tumbling down around me). Phew, that was a long sentence!

  5. Don't worry, Raz (and don't shout either), some of my posts are made after a few glasses of wine when nobody understands me (sob...).

I only found out yesterday, Cro, that we actually gave the field of Runnymead to the USA quite a while ago! The very spot where the Magna Carta was signed could be turned into a second Guantanamo Bay at the drop of a sorting hat.

That Parliamentary Hogwarts building was constructed in 1400 and something Sue. The difference is that they have always had the resources to maintain it.

  6. I do so want to like him - he seems so genuine. Then I read some embittered columnist is some newspaper talking about how these people know when to smile and know what to say to get people on their side and I become disillusioned. Is it possible that any politician anywhere in the world can be in the job because he/she really wants to make a difference? I do hope so. I do not want to become jaundiced in my old age Tom.

  7. As far as British politics is concerned, I really think that most of them start out with good intentions, then get brow-beaten by Central Office into towing the line which is most likely to keep their party in office for as long as possible - New Labour were brought down by the lies, and they brought old Labour down with them. Thatcher was just plain mad, but that seemed to appeal to most people.

All I know about US politics is that you have to have the backing of extremely rich and powerful people in order to stand any chance of office at all.

  9. Obama is Wall Street's servant. Have you noticed how no Wall Street bankers or hedge fund managers have been prosecuted in the wake of the fiscal crisis they created? They gave him early money, which is more valuable money. Sadly, most American politicians are whores, and cheap ones at that.

  10. Sadly, I think you're right, GBH - though we must remind ourselves that our own, dear Tony Blair spent the last 6 months before his election campaign, traveling around the world, getting dry-fucked by people like Rupert Murdoch, in order to get their backing.

That 'getting stuck on a speed-bump' thing used to happen to US generals who had their cars flown over by the US Air Force in the late 40s, and tried to drive them over small, Devonshire village bridges, Iris. I'm amazed it still happens.

  11. Tom: Isn't Blair enjoying a seat on the Carlyle board? With Poppy Bush? Whores. The whole lot of them.

  12. Blair is enjoying all sorts of things now that he doesn't deserve. I only wish that he might eventually experience some of the things that he DOES deserve, but that would be asking a bit too much. These people write their own contracts, and the contracts are packed full of indemnity clauses.
