A little music for tonight - 'Burning Spear' - "We are Going". I saw this man play in the little Somerset town of Frome once - a legend. A friend of mine used to fry fish on a beach with him in Jamaica.
Her Indoors once said that she would like this to be played at her funeral - I know what she means, it applies to us all...
Tom, it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBurning Spear is a direct mouthpiece for pure compassion, I think, Olive. I also like the way he puts electricity into the word 'electri-C'. He doesn't smile much on stage, but he is not a cold person.
ReplyDeleteI want hair like that. I already have the shirt.
ReplyDeleteDamn it, he's younger than me. I'm really a SKA man, but occasionally I climb the fence. Proper job.
ReplyDeleteTie your beard into dreadlocks, Grouch - much more distinguished, and it would catch the dropped food better.
ReplyDeleteI like some SKA, Cro, but I got a bit fed up with all the rude boys and white bands in the 80s. It reminds me of skinheads too, which is unfortunate. How odd that British nazis latched onto black music like that. They also adopted many of the British gay fashions at the time, like white socks, etc. Very strange.
