Many thanks to Willow for use of The Manor. Glad you all got home OK.

  2. Can Cro actually organize shooting stars? Wow!

  5. I didn't realise your recent malaise involved flatulence, Cro. At least you landed pretty close from where you took off.

  6. Tom, do you have a 'shooting star season' in Bath? Here they seem to start around the end of July, and continue through August. We often just lie on our backs on the grass at night and watch the show. It's spectacular.

  7. Yes we do, Cro, but it is no different to yours or anyone else's on the planet! (we are not that elite...) The August shower - and occasionally storm, how I'd love to see one of those - is when we pass through the feint debris from a long-gone comet, and particles shoot through appearing to emanate from one constellation (Leo, I think, hence 'Leonids') Sorry if I am saying the obvious! I saw a 'fireball' over Bath once (probably about 100 miles away) that was spectacular and, during a heavy shower, I actually saw flaming ash debris hit the roof of a house in town, like an upside-down rocket! In the morning there was no sign of damage or marks. The big problem in Bath is light pollution, unlike the French countryside - lucky bastard!

  8. Nothing is obvious to me in this respect. I'm a stellar ignoramus. Yes, I suppose the great difference is pollution of different sorts. We certainly do get a great show some nights. Our other great 'son et lumiere' shows are, of course, STORMS, and we are battening down the hatches as I type.

  9. I have heard about the storms in your area. Here - even for Wimbledon and Glasto - we have had scorching hot weather - about 20 something as I write. I do not complain.

  10. Oh, and by the way - Germany 4, England 1.

  11. WRONG. Germany 4, England 2. And I don't care what anyone says or writes.
