Play I Some Music

Where would we be without all this wonderful music?

  1. I've been lucky enough to see all but one of these blokes in concert - I haven't yet seen Lee Perry, but he is playing in England this summer.

Lee Perry is a mad genius, but I would not want to share a house with him. When Her Indoors saw him at the Reggae Sunsplash in Cornwall, he was 2 hours late, and went on stage covered in seaweed and shell, like some black Neptune.

The Photo is of Eek A Mouse, in one of his many guises. He is about 7 feet tall, and as handsome as fuck. When I saw him, he was dressed as Ali Baba.

Prince Fari was shot in Jamaica shortly after I saw him in Bristol, like so many other Jamaicans.

Burning Spear is a legend, but when we saw him in Frome, there was only about 50 people in the audience, and most of them were white Brits - shame. Her Indoors wants 'We Are Going' played at her funeral - a good choice.

How I LOVE these Jamaican musicians.

  2. It's no secret that Cro is a Ska-nut. The Alpha Boys School is still there. Shame about the violence; it should be a paradise island. I shall send you a picture!

  3. P.S. Welcome to Razmataz - an interior designer from Canada. (I'm beginning to think that I'm being stalked by interior designers, and cannot imagine how this came about) I may put up a video of 'Ab Fab' soon, the one where they visit their designer friends with a bottle of wine...

Thanks for the photo, Cro - I'm impressed. Don't worry, I've eaten it (turned it into a couscous).

  4. Sorry I haven't been around much. I'll give all of these a listen tomorrow. I haven't given ska much attention before, but always like to hear what a friend's favorite tunes are.

  5. When I was working in Florida (before You Tube!) I lent the local black guys who I was working with, a load of imported, Jamaican Dub on tape, which they had never heard before, so they could copy it. All they had was soft Reggae on the radio. I like to think I was the first to play it in the Orlando area! We were brought up with imported Ska as kids, and - ironically - it became the music for all the neo-nazi skinheads too. I never worked out why. Maybe because they were just so stupid?
