At this time of year in the kitchen of our compact but adorable sity apartment, when I boil water for vegetables, my cigarette smoke mixes with the steam and condenses against the wall to turn the paintwork from bright, Summery blues into the nicotene yellow of a caramel custard topping.
I love it.
Memories of my mother's living room.....
ReplyDeleteMemories (for me) of old style pubs with custard ceilings, with old style men sitting around, smoking. I love it.
DeleteLike I said my mothers living room!
DeleteAlright then, old mothers sitting around, smoking. Jeez.
DeleteYou are also a poet:)
ReplyDeleteYou have to be recognised for what you really are, at least by one person.
DeleteYou still smoke?
ReplyDeleteMore to the point, you still boil vegetables?
DeleteI still smoke and I steam vegetables. Do you have a probem with this information?
DeleteMore to the point, how long do you expect to live and how long do you expect to maintain your current life-style?
DeleteOh, steaming, ok, not boiling then. Over here it's all about roasting vegetables. Sadly I've had to give that up because they tell me my potassium level is dangerously high. Not sure how long I'll live, but I do know that I can only maintain my current lifestyle if I continue to work. Thankfully, the only physical requirement of this lifestyle is the ability to manage short walks to and from the subway. As long as I can remember my native language, I should be ok.
ReplyDeleteI hope you factored the Trump effect into the calculations... The only vegetables I can bear roasted are potatoes and parsnips, but I was brought up in 1950s England.
DeleteA yellow ceiling used to be the sign of a good pub. Sadly no more.
ReplyDeleteThere is a little old pub here which was renowned for its yellow ceiling. When they banned smoking, they replicated the colour with paint, but it doesn't really work. Have you noticed (DID you notice) how smoke doesn't quite make it right into the corners ?
DeleteI like boiled vegetables, but vin bruleé even more.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
Boiling is the sole reason why many people don't like Brussel Sprouts. They should squeak when you eat them.
