Think of a title - I can't

To add to the general world-wide depression, there are now large groups of foreign men marauding the streets in places like Koln, thinking it is acceptable to make women run the gauntlet whilst walking home at night by grabbing their private parts and trying to remove their clothing while the police do nothing about it.

It took 2 weeks for any media to properly report these horrible events, because of the stupid police and government recommendation that they should go unreported for fear of racial violence on the streets. I found out about it via a text from my German mate, the following day.

I saw a video yesterday of a woman standing outside Koln cathedral, holding a placard protesting that women should be left alone, even if they were stark naked, and she was indeed stark naked. She was also being left alone and some policemen stood around sheepishly at a discreet distance to make sure she was safe in her protest. She was surrounded by press photographers, of course, but everyone else was well back.

What a mess. I can just see the Arab men looking at her with incredulity, then saying to each other, "You see! How can a country be civilised when a woman is allowed to stand utterly naked in public like this? How can she demand 'respect'?"

Then the Neo-Nazis say, "You see! We have been saying that all Moslems are barbaric and all immigrants are criminal terrorists!"

Then the Right Wing politicians say, "You see! We told you that Merkel was letting in criminals in without any regard for the safety of our country."

Then the Left Wing politicians say, "You see! People are free to speak their minds and protest safely in our democracy."

Why does China support the North Korean regime? Because they have seen what happens when you de-stabilise whole regions which are governed by despots, and they cannot afford to have 20 million refugees walking over their border to seek shelter any more than Europe can.

What a bloody mess.

  1. Sticker Man has been out with his little black strips again. I would have thought the whole point of her protest was that she was totally naked; except for her nice pink shoes.

    1. After a lot of trawling through the net, I found a video which didn't include black strips or pixilated pudenda. I had to sign a declaration that I was over 18, and - guess what? - they believed me.

  2. I found the first 'normal' informing article in The Guardian. Here they pussyfoot around, and if one says something you easily get a label of being reactionary (before the incident in Cologne I told some people that I don't feel at ease any more when changing subway at Bahnhof Zoo - they were more than astounded. Now the discussion tone is "But all men are sexists and potential rapists" - I am sick and tired of hearing that.

    1. With Germany trying to keep the E.U. and its economy together at the moment, there is a lot at stake and there is a lot of juggling going on between the warring factions. I get the impression that sometimes reunification is regretted and the Soviet Union is remembered fondly by older people.

    2. Maybe by some people of Eastern Germany, but otherwise I don't see that.

  3. What saddens me is that we have reached a very low point in society when the Police stand with their hands on their hips doing nothing while fireworks are fired horizontally into crowds, an unpleasant situation is clearly unfolding in front of them, people scared, assaults taking place, robberies, and they do nothing because it is "too politically sensitive" and they might be seen racist.

    1. A couple of years ago, it was the ethnic Asian lot who exploited 14 year old girl in the Manchester area that the police were ignoring. It just swings from one way to the other. Where is the common sense and generally decency that we are supposed to be known for?

  5. The world is in upheaval. The cork could not stay in the bottle forever, and someday China will have hoards crossing its border, too. Heaving masses of humanity (my visual).
Immigrants arrive seemingly unassimilatable. The authorities should send the worst back. In the meantime, they are here (or there, in this case). Protesting to make a point is good and admirable. Not to assess the potential for trouble realistically and take precautions is stupid.
Assimilation takes a generation. Accept it. I remember when gay men locked arms and walked down main streets chanting we are queer and we are here. Now gays have been mainstream for so long the US supreme court accepted them.
Find the thugs. They aren't thugs because they're immigrants; they're thugs because they're thugs. Send them back. Imprison them. The rest only want a room, a bed, school for their children--opportunity.
This problem won't be solved over night, and a cacophony of complaints from us won't help the matter. Support reasonable solutions at the ballot box and wait. And take care.

  8. Hers (the naked woman) is an extrem reaction to the discussion that some 'sisters' in Germany leaded: they meant in earnest(!) that now the times of the mini(rock) are over, because other religions might be offended. That is what I call "scissors in the head" - and it makes me want to take some scissors to cut my skirts shorter - here in Germany I do (almost) as I please as long as I don't hurt anybody (of course as a guest I adjust in other countries to their customs).
