The thankless duty of being a know-all

Last night's little tiff was all to do with how I am always right. I try to stop myself from pronouncing the best way to do anything; from explaining the reason why condensation runs down some kitchen walls but not others; how putting the lid on a pan of boiling water with potatoes in it does not stop the steam from coming out (actually, I am not 100% sure about this one, but don't tell her I said so), but when you are infallibly right about absolutely everything, it can be difficult to stand by and keep your mouth shut - to accept the flawed and inferior opinions of others.

Being a man who has an almost infinite knowledge of the universe and all its arcane workings is one of those endearing little traits that I mentioned in the last post.

This is the new heater - delivered double-boxed. I am quite proud of myself for getting it up three flights of stairs on my own. Mind you, I could hardly walk for about 15 minutes afterwards.

  1. Actually I have just realised that the greatest cause of tension and stress in this household is water being in the wrong place - i.e. outside of a sink or pipe. Last night's condensation cascading down the walls was exacerbated by the fact that the old water tank is still dribbling upstairs, and the gleaming new modern one is taking up a lot of floor space in the living room, waiting to be installed.

It was delivered yesterday - a vast crate of cardboard which weighs about 100 pounds which I had to get upstairs on my own. It is being fitted on Wednesday.

    2. P.S. My mails will not be accepted by any BT Internet Service, I have discovered. I did reply to your lat one, but BT wouldn't take it. You would not believe how bloody irritating it is to forget this, and constantly receive warnings from Mail-Daemon every week for a month. It's not just you, it is anyone with a BT account. Please use a different mail server or get BT to behave like ordinary humans. Thanks!

  3. When boiling potatoes and you close the lid then the water bubbles over. I find steaming the potatoes doesn't do that.

    1. If the lid is partially on, some of the steam condenses and runs back into the pot, but I don't think enough to make much difference in a small kitchen with cold masonry walls - BUT WHAT DO I KNOW???

    2. Well the point is the water boils quicker when you put the lid on, so whether steaming or boiling, take the lid off once it is boiling. You can then place your wooden spoon across the top to prevent it boiling over (I have that on good authority from Pinterest.) And perhaps you should wallpaper your kitchen walls but please don't paper behind the stove because it is a fire hazard. Don't ask me how I know. And you thought you knew it all bwahaha . .

  5. Knowing it all is why I have had to change jobs so frequently. At home, we've decided to agree that I am always right. So much easier than all those endless debates.

  6. Didn't that arduous job of heaving all that stuff up the stairs let you off the hook a bit for being always right.

    1. No! It didn't even help when I said that I did it with one hand!

  7. Luckily both Lady M AND myself are always both right. She pretends to be right; I know I'm right.
