What is it?

Right - we will start off with an easy one. Clue: They come in all shapes and sizes (ooer, missus).

I will post up the un-cropped photo as soon (or as soon as I get home) as someone gets it, and the first correct answer gets a round of virtual applause.

I told you it was easy - it's a small paint brush belonging to H.I.

If I have time, I will make the next one more interesting tomorrow, plus boost the content by discussing the filth and sedition that I am renowned for.

  1. If you hadn't mentioned "shapes" I'd immediately been reminded of a washer woman's board (that's the left part of your photo. Whatever it is, it's old and tinny and probably useful. The right - I don't know - a paint roller in a tray?

Don't say I don't try on very little evidence.

  4. Oh I know! It's what my Gran used to call a 'whatsybobbit'.

Actually, it made me think of the old noisemakers my Grandfather used to send we kids out to the garden with: an old noisemaker to frighten off the critters, winged or otherwise, who liked to raid.

    1. Who needs a noisemaker when you have me?

    2. Noisemake? Would that be before, during, or after the nightly onanism session? Doesn't your hand get a wee bit sore?

    3. All of the above, plus more.

  5. I'm posting up the undoctored picture before I retire to my boudoir for the nightly onanism session. You have a few hours.

  6. It is part of an old fashioned washboard.

  7. Is the onanism reference a clue or simply the joy of anticipation?

    1. I am too far gone to anticipate the joy of onanism.

  8. Well, it has a pretty fancy silver for the part that holds the bristles for a paint brush. You should charge more for the little boot. I think it belongs in the Smithsonian. Frances?

    2. I forgot to tell you I work for MI5, identifying partial pictures. I was surprised that I had to look up onanism. I've never heard nor read that one.

    2. I also though I spied a paintbrush, Rachel, but am glad that Donna saw it first.

Tom, maybe you will continue this puzzle feature?

      Best wishes.

  12. A brush! I wouldn't have guessed that, but can add a Hyacinth quote: "If you promise not to brush against my walls. They have recently been redecorated up to and beyond British standards."
