Nature abhors a vacuum

I think that it is tomorrow that the Chilcot report comes out, and it is so long since it was first commissioned that you could be forgiven for forgetting what it is all about. It is concerning the build-up and beginning of the war in Iraq, and Britain's part in it.

The rumour is that the British Army will take the brunt of the blame, and that Tony Blair is going to come out of it as squeakily clean as ever. Well he must have spent quite a bit of time bending a few ears, if not arms, over the last few years. There is even talk of trying some specific soldiers for war crimes. That should divert attention away quite nicely. It is 2 million words long, I am told, so it may take a bit of digestion before blame is apportioned.

I wonder if it will touch on the obvious fact that without the almost total destruction of Iraq followed by the swift exit of US and British troops, I.S. would probably not exist?

  1. No. And I wonder if it will feature the role of the AG, a Government appointment whose decision making was behind closed doors and evidebce at the time not made public, and eventually probably leaned on in favour of Blair and invasion. It will be 3 million pages of whitewash and waffle and will be used against the British Army.

    2. I've been listening to the Smiley stuff too. LeCarre worked in the business - he knew what he was talking about.

  2. I'm trying to remember if I have ever been satisfied with any report resulting from an official investigation. Going back to the Kennedy assassination, I'd say no.
Over here, we await the FBI report on the Bill and Hillary Clinton home computer set up.
I guess some countries don't even bother with such investigations.

I just had a quick peek at the Tour, having watched lots of yesterday's race. This is my report of my independent investigation. France looks beautiful.

    1. The FBI has delivered its report.

Ms. Clinton has just traveled with the President to a campaign rally in North Carolina.

      So it goes.

  3. Can Obama count beyond 60? That's the number of days he said on 16th April he needed to decide if the American people and obviously Britain too were to be told what was in the 28 redacted pages and the other pages

  4. 9/11 was the official start of everything. If Saudi Arabia and others were responsible why did we attack Iraq?

  5. IS have taken now over where Blair left off, recently killing 250 fellow Muslims in Baghdad. He certainly left a shitty legacy.

    1. And to think that Blair and Bush claimed that the world was a safer place now that they had got rid of Saddam.

  6. Well I know who I blame for it all, whatever the report says.

  7. Why oh why, don't we sort out the messes in out own back yards before nosing into everyone elses business. It so reminds me of these families who have lots of children that they cant deal with, so they get a few big dogs too - that they have no control over.
