Hyphenated. Non-hyphenated.

I thought I would start the post off with an irritating conundrum as a title. I hope it doesn't ruin anyone's weekend.

Headline in the Bath Chronicle: Tom Stephenson works during weekend shock. If it's a shock to you, think what it's doing to my system.

Headline in the Norfolk Gazette: Couple's veggie u-turn sparks power-cut in Norwich shock.

Headline in New Day: Paper predicts own demise in mission-statement shock.

Headline in Shrewsbury Gazette: Elderly woman's 5 day Cream-Tea spree sparks manhunt.

Headline in Trelawnyd Gazette: Have you seen this chicken?

Headline in the Daily Franglaise: Retired stock-broker attacks 'Leftie Scroungers'.

Headline in Irish Times: Retired Druid discovers amazing fact on internet! (Also repeated in Huffington Post).

Another headline in Irish Times: Woman's children 'turn pink' shock! (Local G.P. blames a surfeit of cup-cakes).

I like the fact that this post is hyphen-heavy.

  2. This post is over-hyphenated and there are examples of this in profusion and mis-use thereof.

  3. Hyphens seem to be dying out. I must start a Hyphen Preservation Society forthwith. Or should that be forth-with?
