A little of what you fancy

I would like to spend the day swanning around (Britta), but instead I have to put up three sets of roller blinds, sew some Night-Scented Stock seeds in our extensive window-box, and wait for five hours until I can call up Canada without getting anyone out of bed.

Thömas - our Bremerhaven friend - sent me five tins of the above recently. It is a very good quality chocolate, originally given to the Luftwaffe in WW2 to keep them awake during the long night raids. It is packed with caffeine, so acts like a solid coffee. It tastes good too. It reminds me of the original Coca Cola, which had real cocaine as an active ingredient. Now I am reminded of the original Radox foot-bath salts, which had real uranium in it. God knows what the original below had in it. If it was anything like the stuff we gave to our pilots, it would have been amphetamine. Oh those days of innocence...

I must have started a chain-reaction - now I am thinking of the old drummer joke: What's the difference between a drummer and a Radox foot-bath? A Radox foot-bath bucks up your feet.....

  1. I used to buy 'Tincture of Cannabis' at a London pharmacy. Apparently it was sold as cough mixture.

    1. You could buy codeine over the counter a few years ago. Sherlock Holmes used to buy cocaine at his local pharmacy.

  2. Those were the days. You can't even buy the antihistamine pseudoephedrine without signing the pharmacy registry nowadays because it can be used as a stimulant.

    3. Breaking Bad is one of the best American shows ever, in my opinion. Wonderful writing. You should watch it.

  3. Is the window box outside the bedroom window? how wonderful to have the windows open on a hot summer night and enjoy the scent of flowers.

    1. Kitchen, not bedroom - though that's not a bad idea. I still have 3000 seeds.

  4. Oh - I never saw THAT box for the Scho-ka-Cola! The modern one was devoured like fodder by truck drivers, I was told. I never ate it, being warned off by my parents :-)
As to seeds: I too can offer quite a lot - bought them in a state of inattention (had I but had Sch-ka-Cola) - for my Berlin balcony that suffers from megalomania. (The balcony!)

    1. Eh? What now? I didn't think I could sink any lower.

Rachel's gone off in a dramatic exit (not swanning out), and now this. I hope it is my poor taste in jokes you refer to Weave, and not anything more serious.

  7. There is actually a store close by that sells the chocolate (tin) in the first picture. I thought that it is some modern concoction and never even tried it. Now I will have too, though! I have high expectations. I have never before seen the tin in the second picture. Nazi chocolate, who knew?

  8. Oh, this is funny! I looked at your reply on the small screen of my phone, and did not see the correction right away. I was wondering what hood we are in
