The Archers my arse

I've just left the unofficial Archers Facebook page, because it doesn't actually fulfil the job description, and when I politely pointed this out, about 400 of the 2400 members started telling me to fuck off. One particular woman said that I was only talking about this obvious subject because I had a small willy. I was suddenly lost for arguments, so I stopped following.

All the members said that they were perfectly within their rights to conduct a debate amongst themselves which did not touch on the the subject of The Archers, but as soon as I started one myself, all hell was unleashed in my direction. Apparently I should have just ignored all the arrangements to meet up at the weekend, all the adverts for holidays, etc. etc. but these people didn't seem to follow their own advice when it came to ignoring me.  I've never had so many comments - literally too many to count, let alone respond to.

Ironically, I only joined this group because it looked like a light-hearted one which would keep me out of contentious trouble. I thought it would make a nice change from all the depressing stuff about Syria, and I admit that I was looking for a bit of escapism from dreary and worrying reality. I don't think there is any escape - anywhere - on the world-wide interweb.

I was a bit suspicious when I saw that the woman who started this page is a Canadian. I know it can get very boring in Canada, so I am not surprised that she allows all sorts of things to over-shadow the everyday story of countryfolk. It looks as though she has created a juggernaut which she cannot control now, unless she turns it into a full time job. I think she sent me a warning that I would be expelled if I ever made such a crass comment again, but she warned the wrong person, who was justifiably upset about it. I don't even know what she was referring to, especially since I had all sorts of threats from others with very personal remarks attached, when all I said was 'why don't you just stick to The Archers?'

The Canadian has posted a list of rules at the top of the page which states that - before anyone gets the wrong idea - it has nothing to do with archery. She also states that although she will allow the odd off-topic, she will not tolerate people who hi-jack other's threads. This prompted a group of about 50 people using mine to arrange to meet up this weekend.

She will not tolerate the use of the 'C' word, she says, but it is obviously ok for anyone to make assumptions about the size of my knob. I had to check to make sure that this comment didn't come from an old girlfriend.

It is a strange thing to be treated as a troll by about 400 people who act like trolls themselves. It's a bit scary, actually.

Anyway, I have gone home and taken my bat and ball with me.

  1. FB does not solve ennui. On the contrary--well you noticed the little dust storms kicked up. Perhaps you need another job to get you out of the house.

  2. You might try the "Cary Grant"- group on Facebook - once in a while they send me a black-and-white photo of a beautiful man with a beautiful chin, and that was that.
Really: I hate groups that are trying to drill their members. (Hope this sentence does not bear a double meaning :-) , otherwise I await at least 401 abusive comments here and will leave INSTANTLY!

  3. I had a quick look at their page, and I must say that it didn't inspire. Not a single mention of Walter Gabriel.

  6. North Korea brags that it has a hydrogen bomb and ISIS has figured out how my iPhone can be hacked to set off a bomb. I can see why you hoped a FB group might be a nice change. Sorry things didn't work out.

    1. It's all my fault. I like to always begin by trying to find the worst in people, and I am never disappointed. I need to change my approach.

  7. I didn't know that there is an Archers FB group. I listen to the goings on in Ambridge most Sunday mornings when I can, and just wish that stupid woman would wake up to Rob Titchener and his controlling ways, and how did he fake the DNA test regarding the ex wife's baby?
