Nobody changes

 The Prof.

 Me.

H.I.

I have to say that The Prof. would be my ideal avatar of choice, but it just wouldn't feel right to use it. People's childhoods are stolen far too often these days anyway, and I wouldn't want to add to the misery.

The photo of me aged about 5 shows exactly how I spent my childhood - either dreaming about being somewhere else, or being so totally in the moment that I would often just stand there and watch the school bus drive out of sight without me on it.

I'm still quite a lot like that. I don't think that people really change that much. The only difference is that I have finally understood that I don't have to do anything that I don't want to do, unless not doing it causes others harm. I got bored on the job last Friday after only one hour's work, so I just drove away and went to the countryside. This is another reason why I am not rich.

H.I. hasn't changed much either, as far as I can tell. She's still a passionate artist and she still remembers that dress very clearly. She chose her own clothes from a very early age, and if her parents couldn't afford them, then her mother made them - to her specifications. I have just bought her another Black Label, Armani silver jacket from eBay. £23 when it was about £1500 new.

John says The Prof doesn't smile much and the picture would support that. I always sense an air of mild disapproval coming from over John's shoulder - about everything, including the rest of us in the Blogosphere. Not in a nasty way, more of a tired, almost resigned sort of way. I am sure he loves the animals really.

I just love that photo.

  1. P.S. - I have only just realised that the Prof is a Ginger. And I have been so rude about them in the past... no wonder he disapproves.

  2. I knew I should never have told Rachel to fuck off and call the rest of you a bunch of cunts, especially in the nice weather.

Oh well, I think Sarah Toa is under subscribed as well, and she's 30 times better than me.

    1. Don't be despondent Tom …… you have to remember that John is at work and it's Sunday and many people are out gallivanting ….. be patient and the comments will roll in. If not, there's always tomorrow.
You, H.I and the Prof were all very cute children. XXXX

    2. I'm not despondent. I'm just needy.

  3. The thing about you, Tom, it blows over. Must be the "moment" thing. The longest we ever argued was two days.
Look at all of you in jumpers from the needles of grannies or aunties or even mummies. Speaking as a knitter par excellence, they all are well done.

  4. You must understand - I want instant gratification. I am an onanist. Does your church need an onanist?

  5. Beautiful childhood pics and from what you have shown of your adult faces none of them remotely resemble your much older current selves, in my opinion. Of course I might say differently after I've been examined by the consultant ophthalmologist at the hospital next week...

    1. I am being examined by an onanologist at the RUH next week too.

  6. I was amused by your comment on Willow's page. I've never known a man ruin so many poems; he reads every one exactly the same as the last. This present one (with the washing machine) had me in fits!!!

    1. I think I have been taking him too seriously in the past. Anyway, what happened to the Ball at Willow Manor last year? I was looking forward to that.

    2. I've been banned; I dared criticise RADS.

    3. I should add that Tess regularly had hundreds of comments; now (thanks to RADS) she's lucky to have 10 or 20.

    4. I once jokingly threatened to go round and punch RADS's lights out, and I was not banned. I lose comments by insulting people on a regular basis. When I think about it, it makes sense. Why come here just to be insulted?

  7. I am at a loss concerning the "prof" - (funny: he resembles a friend of ours who is one of the most famous poets in Germany now) - but you and H.I. I would have recognized (well, so being mildly eidetic is not only a burden).
I "see" her in that Armani silver jacket.
And as to changing: one sometimes wants to, but seldom does (in major traits).

    1. I had to look up 'eidetic'. I had no idea what it meant. Now I can only see the Prof as a famous German poet who looks like a little boy.
