Colin Allinson

Tomorrow is Colin's funeral near Stow in the Wold. I thought you might like to see this.

Our two dear German friends, Thomas and Tobias, had been visiting him in the Cotswolds and asked the best way to get to Colchester, Essex from there, so he produced the above map.

What could possibly go wrong?

  1. You take the first exit left, the road curves, passed a few trees and keep straight on and you're there. A man after my own heart. Give him a good send off.

    1. I am taking two copies of it to his son and daughter. I think they will like them. That map is a treasured possession of one of 'The Huns', as Colin called them - the dentist one. He is quite upset about Colin's demise.

  2. Right at The King's Head, then sharp left at The Four Crowns, then when you come to The Old Tun Inn ask again.

  3. The farmer gives similar instructions to anyone finding us for the first time. I listen to him handing them out on the phone and wonder why he never refers to signposts. Incidentally they frequently get lost on the way here.

  5. Those are the kind of directions we give out where I live. The teenagers steal the signs so I have to tell them to go south about three miles to the top of a hill then turn east, etc. Most can't find it unless they have gps.

  7. The map is beautiful in it's simplicity. I'd never find my destination with it, though!

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend.
