Give Monarchy another chance

If you live anywhere in the UK, you will have noticed by now that there is a General Election coming up sometime this month.

If ever there was a time when it is really important to vote it's now, and if ever there was a time when the difference between candidates was so slim that it doesn't seem to matter if you vote or not, it's now too.

In one way, the whole circus is exciting, the outcome being so unpredictable, and in another, it is mind-blowingly boring. The only way I can think to make involvement in the process more engaging would be to go and place a large bet on who will be forced to get into bed with whom, and who will have squeezed one extra seat from an undecided constituency.

H.I. and me have made a pact not to answer the phone on the night. Anyone who really wants to speak to me has got my mobile number and I will be switching that off long before the votes have been counted when I go to bed.

When I wake up in the morning it will still not be over. It won't be over for weeks. If it weren't for the tobacco ban (which could be overturned by UKIP) Westminster will be crammed with smoke-filled rooms as manifestos are compromised and blended to try to limit the inevitable damage caused by having to make pacts with opponents for the sake of standing any chance at all of implementing policies.

There is a good chance that we will be forced to vote yet again as to whether or not we want to remain half in and half out of the E.U. Ireland and the Celtic Tiger will be brought in rags out to frighten us and the price of milk will at last rise to an acceptable level for U.K. dairy farmers.

Considering how little real choice there is in this country today, we have too much to choose from and too little time to do it.

  1. I'm really looking forward to it, just to see what idiotic choice the people of the UK will make!

    1. Easy. When it rings you have a choice - pick it up or don't pick it up.

  4. And in the land of reality, where people actually live, some will vote, some will not, and whatever the results, will carry on. It's a shame that left to our own devices anarchy would eventually reign. We should all live in a safe seat, like John. Tory or Whig, just safe, so we would know how to continue carrying on.

    1. No, if nobody votes, then the warlords take over again and we all march into a bright new future under a new king of Wessex! Forward!

  5. I might just close my eyes and vote where my pencil hits - as you say there is so little to choose between them all.
