Do you really want a Spitfire?

If so, this one's coming up for sale at Christies, London soon. A rare opportunity, for someone with a few million pounds to spare. The sale is for charity, apparently.

  1. You can see it flying at Duxford in Cambridgeshire on 23 May. The proceeds go to the RAF Benevolent Fund and Oxford University Wildlife conservation research unit.

    1. This one? I am trying to get my Patron to buy it for me - or rather I buy it for him.

    2. Yes, this one. Just thought I would finish the post for you. Get him to send you along to buy it for him and earn a nice fee.

    3. Everyone and their dogs have been begging him to buy it, apparently, but he refuses to even consider it.

  4. Spitfire? Did you say Spitfire? But not the plane! My first auto purchase fresh out of college was a 1967 Triumph Spitfire that was sitting unloved on a used car lot. Cherry Red, wood veneer dashboard, leather seats, and black convertible top. Gawd, I loved that car. My parents despaired. The suspension was so bad it rattled back molars. That was a fun car. I got rid of it because of electrical problems. I'd be screaming down a highway and boom....suddenly in the dark. Not good. No local auto mechanic could ever figure it out. Wish I had that car now. I wonder how the plane drives?

    1. Apparently, you don't get into this plane, you 'wear it'.

  5. It wouldn't fit in my garage; in fact I haven't even got a garage.

    1. I would strip out that barn-conversion to fit this plane in.

  6. It's certainly not top of my wishlist.
