  1. Ok, I know she died in May last year, but I can pretend, can't I?

    1. I heard an old Desert Island Discs with her and Parkinson.

That voice - after she got it back from 5 years of muteness as a child because the man who raped her was kicked to death, and she thought it was her voice which caused it - what a voice she got back.

She was just lovely. She never inspired me - I don't think I am open to that sort of inspiration. Wrong everything.

She said that if a 4 foot, 200 pound, Japanese Sumo wrestler made her laugh, then she would go with him, after her English husband died.

Worth getting my legs amputated maybe? Maybe not.

  3. He fancies her because she's tall with hair like his - a lookalike.

    1. There is an element of truth in that. That, and the brown skin - hers, not mine, you understand.

  4. As I write this I am aware of a mewing, baby seagull in the background and I realise it is the wrong time of year.

Then I realise that it is my nose whistling as I breathe.

  7. 'I know why the caged bird sings' had a profound influence on me when it was published' - she has an incredible face.
Her spirit lives on I think.

    1. Yes indeed - what a voice, and what calm, common sense spoken.

  9. I'll never forget watching her recite "On the Pulse of Morning" at Bill Clinton's inauguration. I was mesmerized!
