If all else fails...

...and if I am left alone, I would like a simple house under a very dark sky, with a large, glass dome directly above my bed.

Beneath this dome would be my bed, but between me and it would be a pretty large telescope - I don't much care about the design, so long as it could suck-up and funnel as much light into my one remaining good eye as its aperture would allow through.

The house - or small cottage, I don't care - would be set on hard rock, the sort which usually lines the sinks which hold very dark skies.  This way, the only upsets would be caused by a much larger upset somewhere else in the world, and I would not feel so alone. A shared experience, like T.V. or the weather, without the footsteps across a rickety floor disturbing the image.

Let's face it, an old man's eye can only take so much light, so I don't care too much about the design.

Bella Donna.

Then I would not need to listen to anything else as I went to sleep.

I would probably miss the footsteps, though. I need the humans. The truth is, I would give away the Universe to stay with them, or keep them with me.

I wish my niece felt the same way in her lowest moments.

  1. Being blog buddies is different is it not? So much written in your words and yet so much left out. If I lived close by I would show up at your place with some fine wine and maybe just maybe, a joint. Or we'd go to some joint and design your new home. Either way Tom, thinking about you. And by the way its Donna Marie not Bella Donna but don't worry people get my name wrong all the time.

    1. But you are Bella never the less. A slight smell of the farmyard about you, but I've always liked that in a woman...

    2. Essence of old milk with just a hint of boar saliva...not for every man, that's for sure.

    1. Thank you. That's very reassuring, Rachel - again.

  3. Perhaps your niece may feel like you do if she reads this?

    1. I very much doubt it. My other sister and her daughter - her aunt and cousin - are on the case. It's a tricky one, but aren't they all?

She's been talking about death on bloody Facebook, and my daughter alerted to me about it this morning.

It's a long story, but the short solution is to get her away from where she lives now. This is the case they are on.

  4. Wise counselling may well be the answer.

    1. She's getting plenty of that, and has been for quite a while now. After a few months of a friend coming around and breaking up about her life going to pieces, I finally told her to 'pull herself together'. She said, "That's just what my counsellor told me at my last visit." She did.

  5. So much weight on so many shoulders. I hope that sunshine will soon break through, and she'll be able to see the beauty of life again.

    1. I'm sure it will - she needs to get away from her domestic situation.

    2. Wishing her all the best. Depression is a challenge to live with, even in the best of situations.

  6. Hoping that there will be light at the end of the tunnel for your neice soon ….. a difficult time for her but it sounds as if she has family around her to help.
Thinking of you all. Lots of love. XXXX

    1. Ironically, it's her direct family she needs to get away from!

  7. Sometimes, however hard we try, we can't solve other people's problems for them. All we can really do is to give them love, support and practical help if it is possible - and to keep the lines open day and night and hope for light at the end of the tunnel (add pray if you believe in such things.)
